Wind Mitigation Inspection
Wind Mitigation Inspection
A Wind Mitigation Inspection evaluates specific construction features of a property that may reduce the risk of wind damage during storm events. This inspection is performed to document qualifying features that may be recognized by insurance carriers for potential premium credits.
The inspection consists of a visual, non-invasive assessment of readily accessible areas and is completed using the standard Florida Wind Mitigation Form (OIR-B1-1802), along with supporting photographic documentation.
- Areas evaluated may include:
- Roof covering type, age, and general condition
- Roof deck attachment methods
- Roof-to-wall connections (hurricane clips, straps, or other connectors)
- Roof geometry and overall shape
- Secondary water resistance (if visible or verifiable)
- Opening protection, including windows, doors, and garage doors
The purpose of this inspection is to document observable features and construction details at the time of inspection. Qualification for insurance credits is determined solely by the insurance carrier based on submitted documentation.
This inspection is limited to visible and accessible areas and does not include destructive testing, engineering analysis, or guarantees of performance during future storm events.
Findings are documented on the required state form and provided with clear supporting images for submission to the insurance carrier.
